About This Violence is not a Tragedy
This Violence is not a Tragedy is a site which aims to raise awareness of and educate about violence against women around the world. In particular, This Violence is not a Tragedy is concerned with domestic violence – whether that be controlling, physical or sexual in nature. Women are most at risk of violence when they are in the home, and it is the world’s collective shame that this kind of violence has been wrongly characterised and is rarely dealt with appropriately.
This site aims to offer resources, learnings and information that will make it easier for us to begin to drive the fundamental changes that are needed. The road to a world where women can live free from the fear of violence is not an easy one. But it is vital that we begin to take it.
My name is Maheen and I’m a marketing professional and keen dissector of social issues. As you read this blog, you’ll learn more about why I write and fight against injustices that make this world a pretty scary place to be a woman.
I know there is a lot of stigma when it comes to talking about domestic violence. I’ve had to navigate my own way through this in the past. I want us to live in a society where the stigma faced by victims and survivors is wholly the perpetrator’s to bear. And most significantly, I want us to live in a society where the systems around us do not exonerate and protect abusers and instead hold them to account. That’s the only way we can end domestic violence.
